UNDERSTANDING PHENYLKETONURIA (PKU)

Phenylketonuria PKU is a rare inherited disorder. It impacts the individual's capacity to metabolize an essential nutrient called phenylalanine. Normally, the body creates an enzyme called phenylalanine hydroxylase, which converts phenylalanine into tyrosine. In those suffering from PKU, this enzyme lacks function properly. As a result, phenylalani
